Jesus is the Hope of the World

“Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and you

r dominion endures through all generations. The LORD is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made. The LORD upholds all those who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down. The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food at the proper time. You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing. The LORD is righteous in all his ways and loving toward all he has made.

  • The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them.
  • The LORD watchesover all who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy.
My mouth will speak in praise of the LORD. Let every creature praise his holy name for ever and ever.”  Psalm 145:13-21 (NIV)

In a world where justice seems to only come to those who are privileged, Psalm 145 is a “breath of fresh air.” The Psalmist gives hope to every person who has drawn breath. Every person, regardless of their age, race, sex, socio-economic position or culture of origin, has the opportunity to call on the Lord and trust that in Him, truth is found. No one is looked down upon who turns to God. He fulfills their desires because those desires are aligned with His purposes. When they cry out to God, He not only hears them, but rescues them.

In this Psalm, the only person who has reason to be afraid are the wicked.

The key to this hope, however, is trusting that present circumstances, difficult as they might be, are only temporary. That if we will wait on the Lord, He will not only make things right, but when He finally brings ultimate justice it will be for eternity.

Does this mean that we no longer need to fight for justice on earth? Absolutely not! But when justice is not being served, regardless of our efforts, we can draw hope knowing that one day, God will show every living creature that He is in ultimate control. And when He does, righteousness, not evil, will be victorious!

This is affirmed also in Revelation 5, where we see clearly that Jesus, not Satan, holds the future. Jesus Christ is the only one who is worthy to orchestrate the last days of history.

Instead of living in fear of what the future holds, let us fear the one who hold the future, living our lives to honor Him and Him alone!
