The Key to Success

“By justice a king gives a country stability, but one who is greedy for bribes tears it down.”
“The righteous care about justice for the poor, but the wicked have no such concern.”
“If a king judges the poor with fairness, his throne will always be secure.”
“Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe.” Proverbs 29:4,7,14,25 (NIV)

Over the last year as I have read through the Proverbs, I have seen a common theme –
God cares about the poor, and He will protect those who advocate for the poor. These four proverbs within the 29th chapter, are examples of this theme.

When Kings and Presidents insure that their people are able to count on justice, they not only assure their countrymen of stability, but their throne or place of political power is secure.

When people care about justice for the poor and fight for that concern, they are counted among the righteous. This is a bit tricky because for most of us, we cannot guarantee justice for t
e poor because it is out of our control to ultimately deliver. However, it is within our control to care enough to fight for the poor to receive justice. That is all that God asks. And because He is in control of such things as who will ultimately receive justice, I believe He will bless our efforts.

In verse 25, I am able to see my own shortcomings when I read that that
My efforts to receive the approval of people have never been satisfied. The only times that I have experienced peace have been when my focus is on fearing God and putting my complete trust in Him.

Placing our complete trust in God is the only way that we and those who are being exploited and oppressed have hope that we will one day be safe and live in peace. So don’t be fooled into believing things like “God helps those who help themselves”, because there are people in our world who don’t have the power and influence to help themselves. This is why Jesus told the story of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10. In that story he gave us a picture of what it looks like to be the kind of neighbor for whom everyone in need hopes. That person is someone who care enough to risk their time, reputation and resources to help those who cannot help themselves.

Can you imagine what a wonderful world it would be if all of us lived in such a way?
